VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER (RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

Close of Business: 20th May 2026

The position is tenable at WWEC Lilongwe offices and reports directly to the Operations Director

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct, manage and participate in consultancy projects from development of project proposals through conducting studies, filed investigations, report writing and presentations.

  2. Planning and designing projects.

  3. Supervise and participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection and filed investigations.

  4. Areas of involvement will include but not limited to:

  • Formulating research questions.

  • Providing analysis of collected data.

  • Conducting statistical analysis at varying levels of complexity.

  • Providing authoritative advice on all phases, types of socio-cultural research, and analysis to develop a common operating picture of the social –cultural environment for recommendations.

  • Performing research and providing guidance and mentorship regarding research methodologies.

  • Providing input on public opinion survey and focus group.

  • Conducting numerical and trend analysis.

  • Collecting primary data for the social study.

  • Utilizing all study design elements to organize, track and manage data.

  • Providing advice on all phases and types of social research and analysis.

  • Performing social surveys and providing guidance and mentorship regarding social surveys methodologies.

  • Tracking all participation utilizing established research organisational tools.

  • Participating in all outreach events to communicate research and network with study participants as needed.

  • Writing and production of reports.

  • Responding to WWEC work demands within and/or outside the field of expertise, but consistent with the level of expertise

Qualifications

  • BSc in Environmental Science or any related field.

  • 3 to 5 years working experience in a busy environment

  • Strong knowledge in proposal writing

  • Knowledge in ESIA, ESMP, RAP and environmental audit preparations will have an added advantage

  • A Master’s Degree will have an added advantage

POSITION: CHEMICAL ENGINEERS (Fresh Graduates - 25 Positions)

Qualifications

BSc in Chemical engineering

The position is tenable at WWEC Lilongwe offices and reports directly to the Operations Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing water supply systems

  • Assist in designing wastewater treatment systems

  • Apply chemical engineering principles to water purification and treatment processes

  • Support modelling and optimization of treatment systems

  • Contribute to Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIAs)

  • Contribute to Environmental & Social Management Plans (ESMPs)

  • Analyse how projects affect water, air, and land systems

  • Ensure compliance with regulators like environmental authorities

  • Align projects with sustainability goals

  • Conduct site visits, surveys, and inspections

  • Collect water quality samples, waste generation data and environmental baseline data

  • Analyse results using engineering tools and basic statistics

  • Perform tests on water and effluents and industrial waste

  • Interpret lab results to inform engineering decisions

  • Recommend treatment or mitigation strategies

  • Assist senior engineers in designing systems and developing project layouts and technical drawings

  • Participate in feasibility studies and cost estimates

  • Help ensure solutions are cost-effective and sustainable

  • Prepare technical reports such as feasibility studies and environmental assessments

  • Participate in meetings with communities, government agencies and project stakeholders

  • Visit project sites during implementation

  • Monitor construction of water systems and waste treatment facilities

  • Ensure designs are correctly implemented

  • Assist in in writing project proposals and bids and conducting background research for new projects

  • Help develop solutions that reduce pollution, improve water access and promote efficient resource use
